NAESM Conference is Fast Approaching
NAESM National African American Leadership Conference on Health
Disparities and Social Justice
June 7-11, 2023

ATLANTA, GEORGIA The NAESM National African American Leadership Conference on Health Disparities and Social Justice is fast approaching. The conference begins with registration and auxiliary meetings on Wednesday, June 7th, 2023, followed by four workshop-packed days centered around the theme, “All Hands-on Deck: Deploying a Syndemic Response to HIV.” The conference takes place at the iconic Westin Peachtree Plaza Hotel in downtown Atlanta, GA. Workshops will be facilitated by presenters from over twenty cities in fifteen states, including Brooklyn and New York, New York; Hueytown, Alabama; Detroit, Michigan; Columbia, South Carolina; Orange and Newark, New Jersey; Oakland, San Francisco and Los Angeles California; Seattle, Washington; Houston, Texas; Chicago, Illinois; Charlotte and Durham, North Carolina; Washington, DC; Plantation, Florida; Indianapolis and Hammond, Indiana; Fairfax, Virginia and Atlanta, Georgia. Under the trailblazing new leadership of Executive Director, Tim’m West, the LGBTQ Institute of the National Center for Civil and Human Rights—a NAESM conference partner—is sponsoring four panel workshops, two on Thursday, June 8 and two on Friday, June 9, 2023. In one such workshop, a panel of leaders in criminal justice reform, education, and public health will discuss how to leverage data – notably the LGBTQ Institute Southern Survey – to support the advocacy and community mobilization efforts that are paramount in the current anti-LGBTQ political climate. The new LGBTQ Institute Southern Survey report released in April 2023 shows that LGBTQ people in the South are increasingly willing to exercise political and economic power to address ongoing challenges in the areas of education, employment, voting, and healthcare. The panel’s moderator Letitia Campbell will guide this discussion with panelists Toni-Michelle Williams, Kabir Amari, Justin Smith and Leisha McKinley-Beach. The general public will have an opportunity to join conference attendees at Pride Fest by NAESM™, a block party on Friday, June 9, 2023, at the Loudermilk Conference Center from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Participants will meet, mingle and showcase their Pride as NAESM celebrates National Pride Month right here in downtown Atlanta. Come join the festivities, eat, drink, strut, dance, chat with community-based organizations, and watch contestants compete in an AIDS Healthcare Foundation-sponsored LIP Sync contest. STI and HIV screening will be available onsite. Register now to attend the conference at https://naesminc.org/leadership-conference/registration/ and be a part of the conference excitement!
